The Basics of a Minimalist Kitchen

Deeahzone.com – If you are considering remodeling your kitchen, consider adding a minimalist kitchen design to your design. Minimalist kitchens are very popular in homes all around the world. At best minimalist kitchens can be minimalist, elegant, and sleek at worst. Minimalist kitchens most often contain only natural materials, such as granite, which provide unique textures and colors. Because of the minimalistic look of a minimalist kitchen, the room can appear bright and open.

Important Things to Remember in Designing a Minimalist Kitchen

In order to design a minimalist kitchen, there are some key things to remember. First, minimalists strive to keep the essential factors the same. A black and white kitchen is still a black and white kitchen, no matter what type of cabinetry is used or the lighting utilized. The goal of minimalism is to minimize extraneous details, so that the essentials are the focus.

Essential elements in a minimalist kitchen are usually the cabinets and the countertops. Cabinets are usually bare, without any decorative frills or extra hardware. Because of their lack of decoration, cabinets take up less floor space than traditional kitchen cabinets and countertops, which allows for more storage, both on the countertop and elsewhere in the cabinetry. If your budget allows, it is recommended that you have your cabinetry customized to your specific needs, including whether or not you want to bare wood, laminate, veneer, granite, etc.

Using Elegant Ceramic Tiles

Countertops are usually laminated, but sometimes ceramic tile is used. Minimalists prefer to use granite for their countertops, because the material has a very elegant appearance. Granite is also durable and extremely tough. Because of these reasons, many say that using minimalism in the kitchen is the most effective way to maintain a clean, modern look.

Another key feature in a minimalist kitchen design is the absence of clutter. There is usually no more cabinet storage space, so items such as small appliances and dishes are stored above the sink in baskets or drawers. (If you can’t get one of those, just place any large, oddly-shaped item on top of a kitchen counter.) The advantage of this is that there is more storage space available; it’s up to you to decide what proportion of that space to utilize. (I usually keep a lot of stuff above the stove.)

Create as Much Storage Space as Possible

Because the goal of a minimalist kitchen is to create as much storage space as possible, the cabinets often have a very uniformed appearance. In my opinion, this looks very “stuffed.” That is to say, there are few if any different textures or forms-although this is really personal preference. If you do like the uniformity, however, consider having the walls painted a light pastel color. I like to have tile floors; it gives the “subway tile” effect I was talking about.

A major aspect of a minimalist kitchen is the countertop. (It may surprise you to know that the most common countertop material is tile; followed by natural stone, ceramic tile, and stainless steel.) When selecting countertops for a minimalist cooking space, keep in mind that the backsplash and tabletops (if applicable) should match the countertops and keep in mind that your backsplash is probably more important than the other two since you’ll be using it for hands-on activities.

In a nutshell, a kitchen features clean lines and is built-in with efficiency in mind. It is functional but efficient. Because it’s so simple-to-clean and maintain, I find that the cost to run a minimalist kitchen is minimal over the life of the appliances. (I also save money by buying my cookware from reputable kitchen manufacturers that use natural materials-no added expense for inferior quality.) I hope this article helps you get started on the right track to having a beautiful and space-saving kitchen in your home!
